Charleston

  • Focus on the ‘in’ with the feet – ‘cut in, cut in, cut in…’
  • If you were to freeze frame you should see space between the feet
  • Keep the jump quality to the Charleston – jump cross, jump cross exercise using inner thigh muscles
  • Feet should leave the floor as you bounce
  • Bend your knees
  • Keeping feet on the floor, straight legs and s-shape = anaemic Charleston

General

  • Keep left hand very low, aim for elbow not shoulder
  • Remember to keep the rhythm clean and really syncopate the triple steps
  • Keep arms up especially the left arm when coming out of turns to allow leader to catch it
  • Keep own balance at all times
  • If being led out of a swing out backwards use hips to rotate body rather than crossing feet
